In Honor of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month: The Joy Luck Club (1993) Wayne Wang’s adaptation of Amy Tan's 1989 bestselling novel: in San Francisco, a group of aging Chinese women (“The Joy Luck Club”) meet regularly to trade familial stories while playing Mahjong. In a series of sixteen vignettes that spans generations and continents, the film explores cultural conflict and the often-turbulent relationships between four first-generation Chinese-American women and their respective mothers born in feudal China.
