Opera often invites playful criticism for its intricate and sometimes convoluted plots, dramatic singing, lengthy performances, and foreign languages. However, it has also given us timeless masterpieces like La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, and Don Giovanni. Under the direction of geniuses such as Wagner, Puccini, and Mozart, opera seamlessly blends orchestral, vocal, and dramatic arts to create some of humanity's most significant artistic accomplishments.
We invite you to join Ken Korn and the Kemyndable Trio as they demystify the world of opera. They will perform beautiful and enduring melodies from some of the world’s greatest operas, catering to both aficionados and novices. As in their previous programs, the Kemyndable Trio will use PowerPoint to provide historical context about the composers and storylines for each selection.
The flute, with its naturally melodic and lyrical qualities, closely mirrors the human voice in its ability to breathe and shape musical lines. Many great opera arias and overtures have been beautifully arranged for flute ensemble. Among the works to be performed are several selections from Bizet's Carmen, including the powerful Gypsy Song and the lovely Entr'acte. The program will also feature "O Mio Babbino Caro" from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, the overture to Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, the "Flower Duet" from Delibes' Lakmé, "Summertime" from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, and for a touch of fun, "Three Little Maids" from Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado.
The Kemyndable Trio, consisting of Amy Klein, Deborah Proulx, and Kenneth Korn, has performed at numerous venues throughout the Lower Hudson Valley. They are always delighted to return to Warwick’s Albert Wisner Library.
