Jane Kenyon, born on May 23, 1947, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, earned her BA in 1970 and MA in 1972 from the University of Michigan, where she met and married poet Donald Hall. She published four poetry books, including Constance (1993) and Let Evening Come (1990), and a translation of Twenty Poems of Anna Akhmatova (1985). In 1981, she received a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship. In 1993, she and Hall were featured in the Emmy Award-winning documentary A Life Together. She was named New Hampshire's poet laureate in 1995. Her work often reflects themes of love, loss, and spirituality, resonating with quiet intensity. Through her poignant and accessible verse, Kenyon captures the beauty and struggles of ordinary existence, making her poetry both relatable and profound.
