In Honor of Black History Month:  The Color Purple (1985) Steven Spielberg’s epic coming-of-age drama, based on Alice Walker’s 1982 Pulitzer Prize winning novel, stars Whoopi Goldberg in her breakthrough role, with Danny Glover, Oprah Winfrey (in her film debut), Margaret Avery, Rae Dawn Chong, Willard Pugh and Adolph Caesar;  the film is the story of a young African-American girl, Celie Harris (Goldberg), and demonstrates shows the problems African-American women experienced during the early 20^th century, including domestic violence, incest, child sexual abuse, poverty, racism, and sexism.  Rated PG-13 – 2 hours 34 minutes.

Scott Ahrens of the New York State Department of Financial Services will present a workshop focusing on filling out the FAFSA and how the various types of aid, including grants, scholarships and the federal student aid work study program are used to finance an education. Detailed information will be presented on the various kinds of federal and private student loans. High school students 10^th-12^th grades and parents welcome.
