Feb. 16 - Sand Art

The Pretty Committee will show you how to create a one-of-a-kind wreath using leftover fabric scraps.  All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring in any "scraps" you might want to use.

Join author Debra Scacciaferro for a discussion of her new historical romance, American Nightingale. Set in post-civil war 1865 in New York City, the story revolves around a returning soldier on his way to resume his career as the bandleader of Smith’s Cornet Band at the famous 19^th century Catskill Mountain House in Ulster County (a real hotel that burned down in 1940s). Complicating his plans is the news of his step-brother’s death, and meeting his widowed sister-in-law and her young daughter, who turn to him for help. Debra will talk about the music of the times, the real hotel which was built at the precipice of one of the grandest views of the Hudson Valley (still a popular camping spot), and how New York became the social capital of the country that would culminate in the Gilded Age.
