Literature professor Ralph William Boone examines the history of Black in Russia, from the earliest writings in Ovid and Pindar through to the present day. How is it possible that the father of modern Russian literature, Alexander Pushkin, is the great-great grandson of a slave from Cameroon? Come learn about this fascinating story and many others.

Author Chuck Larocca will discuss his new book, The 124th New York State Volunteers in the Civil War, detailing the journey of the local unit, which saw action in many of the major battles of the War such as Gettysburg and Chancellorsville. Enriched with much newly-uncovered primary source material -- such as letters written by eyewitnesses, including Captain James Benedict of Warwick -- the book presents a richly-detailed and poignant view of the experience of the war. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

On exhibit throughout December in the Gallery on the lower level: Talking Pictures: 50 years of Photo Journalism by Robert Demetry.
Robert Demetry will be on hand to discuss his work with interested gallery visitors. On display are many of the photos that have garnered international, national and regional awards.
Robert Demetry belongs to a special breed of news reporters. He has the instincts of a newsman, but as a photographer, he also has the compulsive desire to share his pictures with others. He is a "photojournalist."

No mess! Learn an easy and relaxing method for transferring your favorite images for use on greeting cards or artwork. Please bring your own images to transfer. Only photocopies (b/w or color) or images clipped from newspapers and magazines work for this technique.
Artwork by Jacinthe Battaglino using this technique will be on display in the Board Room during the month of January.
