Here's the story behind RAOH:
In June of 2011, Joanna Mell was preparing to move to California. As a parting gift, she decided to take her harp out into the little town of Perkasie, PA and just sit outside and play - at the local cafe (The Bread Box), the local restaurant, the bank, etc. People were surprised and delighted! We tend to forget that most people do not get a chance to see a harp "up close and personal", let alone hear one. So Random Acts of Harping was born. The main purpose and goal of Random Acts of Harping is for harpers and harpists of ALL abilities and ages to take their harps out into public and just play - to share the beauty of the harp and its music with the general public.Random Acts of Harping started out with one person in 2011 and there are now hundreds of people in many countries all over the world participating in this fun event.Penny McCulloch and Ann Carter-Cox will be on the Library's front patio to play music on their harps for all to enjoy.Location:Front PorchAge Group:Adult, Teen, Tween, Children

Join Alex Prizgintas as he explores classical, jazz, and rock music on the cello. While playing the cello in its traditional form, Alex also employs an assortment of guitar pedals to generate altered tones. Some of these pedals include the distortion, delay, the iconic “wah-wah” pedal (symbolic of 1960s rock bands), and a Boss RC-300 looping station. This is arguably the most important piece of Alex's equipment, allowing him to pre-record musical tracks as well as offering the ability to record and loop various tracks live while creating the sensation of a modern one-man band.
Alex Prizgintas recently graduated from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY majoring in history with a minor in Hudson River Valley Studies. Taking an interest in local history, Alex has had his work published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Hudson River Valley Review and has presented more than thirty lectures on local history across the tri-state region. When he is not focused on local history, Alex spends his time at the cello and piano where he has developed a broad genre of classical, rock, and jazz music.
This concert will be held outdoors; please bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating. In the event of inclement weather (including excessive heat), the concert will move indoors to our Community Room and the first 50 registrants will be seated.
This program is made possible by a generous gift to the AWPL Foundation from Glenn P. and Susan D. Dickes.
