Our lives are enhanced AND interrupted by telephones - a fact that's been true for almost a century. However, in the last decade, we've seen smartphones become a constant companion in our lives - adding internet connectivity to traditional phone calling. On a smartphone you can accomplish communication in a multitude of ways, and facilitate everything from GPS driving directions to sending photos you've just taken. A smartphone is a versatile computer. This workshop will explain one way in which developers design and sell applications - "Apps" for smartphones. You will learn about the kind of skills needed to design your own app, and watch a demonstration of an app being created, packaged and made available to others.Roger Moss is an educator and student of technology living in Warwick. The skills learned in this workshop will be helpful to adults; it will enhance their understanding of the device and point toward a better use of the technology that is so ubiquitous yet dominated by continuous messaging. For student-aged kids, it will create an environment of wonder and optimism about the ways kids can use their phones more creatively.
