* Contributions of Native Americans:  on Thursday, November 7 at 6:30pm, please join Reuben Fast Horse to learn about how many of today's foods, tools, medicines, and governmental structures are derived from Ancient America. Reuben Fast Horse, born on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, is a traditional Lakota singer, dancer, flutist, drummer, craftsman, storyteller and educator. He has been certified by the Lakota and the North Dakota State Board of Education as an Eminent Scholar, and has taught Lakota culture at Standing Rock Elementary and at Grant School in Fort Yates, N.D.  He has also toured the United States, performing and speaking at festivals, colleges, high schools and elementary schools.  Register here.

* Planned Interior Construction @ AWPL the Library's dry sprinkler fire protection system will be undergoing an upgrade from mid-November through late December The lower level will be unaffected.  The main level will remain open, but various collections and work/meeting spaces may be either relocated or inaccessible for 1-2 weeks at a time, and the construction will cause some noise.  The Library staff will do everything possible to limit disruption and inconvenience.  Thank you for your patience!

* Caroline Doctorow and the Great American Folk Song Revival:  on Friday, November 15 at 7:00pm, singer/songwriter Caroline Doctorow will discuss the folk music of the early '60s, presenting the work of important American songwriters and performers such as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger and others.  Performing her original compositions, she will explain the songwriting process and what it was like growing up the daughter of a world-renowned author - the late E.L.
