Gittes, a private detective, is hired to expose an adulterer, but finds himself caught up in a web of deceit, corruption, and murder. With exquisite period sets and costumes, and exceptional dialogue (Robert Towne would win Best Screenplay Oscar for his brilliant filmic writing), Chinatown is a 70’s masterpiece.  Rated R: 2 hours  10 minutes.
