John Ruszkiewicz, president of the Drowned Lands Historical Society, will present facets of the history of the black dirt region and the Pine Island community. Come in out of the cold and enjoy some of the stories behind these wonderful paintings of the Warwick Valley and Orange County area in times past. Noted for his renderings of rural landscapes, lifestyles, and people, Robert Fletcher will discuss some of theworks currently on exhibit in the Community Room, and share a few previews of his upcoming book on the wonderful stories of the late Luther Barrett.
Read the book, see the film and join us for a discussion of the popular 2009 novel "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett.Set in JacksonMississippi in 1962, the book tells the story of women who cross boundaries as the civil rights movement explodes around them.The discussion will explore the book and its transition to film.
Copies of the book and the film are available at the Library. The film will be shown at the Library on Saturday, February 25 from 2 to 4:30pm. Registration required.
Join us for this showing of the film version of the popular 2009 novel "The Help," written by Kathryn Stockett. It tells the story of African American maids working in white households in Jackson, Mississippi during the early 1960s.
