The Amazing Chase:  back by popular demand!  Our second family scavenger hunt is sure to be even more fun than the first.  Form a team with family members and race against other families to complete missions, earn points and claim the trophy.  Fun for all ages; prizes for all!  This is an interactive community game hosted on a private Facebook page, so you'll need an active Facebook page to participate. Register one person per family/team.  Registration begins September 12.

Join a bi-weekly virtual discussion group to explore “The 1619 Project,” a publication of the New York Times Magazine, which marks the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans to Jamestown, Virginia. The series highlights the contributions of Black Americans and the many ways the legacy of slavery continues to shape society in the United States. The project includes essays, photos, stories, music and poems that challenge readers to examine their knowledge of U.S. history and provides a lens to understand the moment of racial reckoning we are in today.

Handsome and well-dressed, woodpeckers are a favorite of many.  Learn to identify by sight and sound 7 woodpecker species common to the Hudson Valley.  We will also cover diet, nesting, anatomy and why woodpeckers are able to hammer on trees without injuring themselves. Learn the differences between drumming, feeding and excavating behaviors, and ways to deter woodpeckers if they’ve chosen your house for these activities. Presented by Pam Golben.

Saw Mill River Audubon Executive Director Anne Swaim will present a multimedia program using some of the best raptor images from local photographers, video clips and more.  Find out when and where raptors may be seen, and how they are doing in the mixed rural and suburban landscapes of the lower Hudson Valley.
