Do you love Shakespeare’s sonnets?  Ferlinghetti’s free-wheeling poems?  The elusive Emily Dickinson?  Maya Angelou, Billy Collins, Robert Frost, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Odgen Nash, Sylvia Plath, Marge Piercy, and all the many others — what poet has gifted you with your favorite poem?  Come to this Poetry Month celebration to share a poem that has enriched your life or helped you though a difficult time. This reading is a marvelous way to discover new poems, as well as share your own favorites. Drop in for a while, or stay for the entire program.

Spinning Group (Fiber Arts: Drop Spindle)

An informal spinning group focusing on drop spindle yarn method from wool and other fibers.  Beginners and more advanced spinners welcome.  Bring your own spindle and fiber, or if you are new to this ancient craft, contact us ahead so we can provide "loaners" to you (a small fee for wool used will be collected as arranged in advance).  Drop spindle spinning uses a lightweight spindle that is very portable, as opposed to a heavy and expensive spinning wheel.  Co-sponsored by the Friends of Hathorn House Historical Society.

On Thursday, September 6th, the Senior Improv Group will present a special workshop with Ron Wiener and Linda Richmond.  For those who joined at the very first meeting of the Improv Group in June 2014, you will remember Ron as the British fellow who directed the first Play in Day and introduced us to Improvisational Theater.  Ron is a sociodramatist who leads two senior improvisational theater groups in Britain.  He is very creative, fun and easy to work with!

Closing Reception for “TAOS JOURNEY” Exhibit with artist George Nicholson

Join photographer George Nicholson for a closing reception of “TAOS JOURNEY: High Desert Portraits of Time.”   He will welcome questions regarding his magical, seven-day photo trek through the Taos region of New Mexico and the creative process that resulted in this expansive, colorful exhibition of fine art photography.  Books, an Original Soundtrack Album composed by Bettina Covo (who will be present), and Smaller Works and Prints will be available for purchase.  Refreshments will be served.

Join Laura Garcia, Racial Justice Program Manager for the YWCA, for a look at U.S. immigration policy .  The presentation will include discuss key dates in American immigration legal history, the process to come to this country, and the myths and realities of U.S. immigration. The goal is to provide insight in a uniquely fair and balanced approach.  Laura provides an engaging forum for people to express themselves with informative, up-to-date materials to prompt discussion.
