Weather-Related Policies

Albert Wisner Public Library is a designated cooling center for Orange County, NY during periods of extreme heat.  Anyone seeking relief from the heat may visit the Library during its regular opening hours (M-Th 9am-8pm; Fri 9am-5pm; Sat 10am-5pm; Sun 12pm-4pm.)   In addition to air conditioning, the Library also has a water bottle refilling station and a water fountain, comfortable seating and work/study spaces.  All are welcome; visitors need not be residents of the Warwick Valley Central School District nor be Library cardholders.  During the summer months and especially during heat waves, the Library regularly communicates its status as a cooling center on social media, in its e-newsletters and in flyers around the Library.

When the Warwick Valley Central School District announces a delayed opening or a complete closing due to inclement weather, Albert Wisner Public Library automatically delays opening until 11:00AM.  Subsequent decisions to extend a delayed opening, or to close entirely, are authorized by the Board of Trustees.  Delays and closings are announced on the website, on the Library’s social media (Facebook, Instagram) and if possible, also posted at the Library.  If in doubt, please call the Library at (845) 986-1047, ext. 3.

Policy on Non-Weather Related Closings
Occasionally, the Library may close for operational or safety reasons, or for quarterly staff training.  Such closings are authorized by the Board of Trustees and posted at the Library and on its website as far in advance as possible.  See also the Library’s scheduled closings
