Reading and Writing with Anne Frank

Albert Wisner Public Library is pleased to present Reading and Writing with Anne Frank, a traveling exhibit brought to us by the Anne Frank Center USA.  This exhibit is funded by a generous gift from Glenn P. and Susan D. Dickes to the Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation.  The exhibit will be on display from March 22, 2015-May 15, 2015.

Listed below are the events planned to showcase this important exhibit.  All are free and open to the public, suitable for adults and attentive listeners of all ages.  Please register online by clicking on the event title or by calling the Library Help Desk at (845) 986-1047, ext. 3.  Seating for all events is limited.

Grand Opening:  Sunday, March 22 from 4:30pm-6:00pm.  Join us for an opening reception and music performed by the Warwick Valley High School’s chamber strings group.  Special guests offering opening remarks will include Rabbi Rebecca Shinder of Temple Beth Shalom in Florida, NY; Hilary Stipelman of the Anne Frank Center (USA); and Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard.  Refreshments will be served. 

Exhibit Tours:  tours will be held on the following Saturdays from 3:30pm-4:30pmMarch 28; April 4; April 11; April 18; April 25; May 2; May 9.  To register online, please click on the date you would like to attend.  Note:  tours may be scheduled for other dates/times for groups of 10 or more.  Please call Rosemary Cooper at (845) 986-1047, ext. 6 to schedule.  The tours take 40-60 minutes and are appropriate for ages 10 and up.  They include an introduction by a volunteer docent, short video, a tour of the exhibit and time for questions and answers.

The Story Behind the ExhibitWednesday, April 8 from 7:00pm-8:30pm.  Hilary Eddy Stipelman, Director of Outreach & Exhibitions at the Anne Frank Center USA on the lower West Side of Manhattan, will speak about Anne’s relationship with her diary and the impact her writing continues to have around the world.  Following her presentation, Ms. Stipelman will lead a tour of the exhibit, highlighting the history of the time and Anne’s development as a writer. 

“Conversations with Agnes”:  Sunday, April 19 at 2:00pm.  Meet Holocaust survivor, artist and author of “On Swallow’s Wings” Agnes Adler.  Hear her tell her story of courage and resilience and how it influenced her development as a creative artist.  A sampling of her work will be on display during the exhibit and her book will be available for purchase at the event.

Closing Celebration:  “Conversations with Anne”*:  Thursday, May 14 at 7:00pm.  The Anne Frank Center’s signature live drama performance is taken directly from Anne’s diary.  Ideal for student and family audiences, the program provides a uniquely personal glimpse into Anne’s time in hiding.  Questions and answers with “Anne” will follow the performance.
