Monday Afternoon @ the Movies: A Single Man (2009)

A Single Man (2009):  Based on Christopher Isherwood’s 1964 novel, the film stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and Matthew Goode, and was American fashion designer, Tom Ford’s directorial debut. Set in Southern California 1962, it depicts one day in the life of George Falconer, an English Literature teacher who, for the past eight months, has been grieving the death of Jim (his lover of 16 years). Unable to live without him anymore, George prepares his last day on Earth.  While beautifully acted and visually exquisite, A Single Man is also a heartbreaking portrait of grief. Rated R: 1 hour 39 minutes.
