In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month – Tortilla Soup (2001) Inspired by Ang Lee’s 1994 film Eat Drink Man Woman, María Ripoll’s family drama (with a spice of salsa music and delicious food) centers around a Mexican-American family living in Los Angeles. The patriarch (Martin), a widower and veteran chef, shares his three adult daughters, Leticia, Carmen, and Maribel. Martin has one simple rule: be at home for Sunday dinner and attendance is both mandatory and non-negotiable. A rift in the family develops when the sisters develop relationships and an obnoxious woman sets her sights on Martin’s affections. Rated PG-13: 1 hour 42 minutes.
