    The Library is interested in beginning a chess club for children. We need parents and other interested adults or teens to help us get a chess club started. This program will teach you about the game and give you the skills to teach it to others. We hope that this program will inspirevolunteers to begin a weekly or bi-weekly chess club here. This program will be hosted by Michael Kusen, a chess master and author. He belongs to Chess for Teachers. This program is intended for families, and children who attendmust be in Kindergarten and up.

    Michael Sciaretta has lived in Warwick for thirty-five years. His poetry has been published in such magazines as Dimensions, Fertile Ground and Hart. He is a social worker by profession and has practiced as a therapist throughout Orange County.

    To salute Veterans and their spouses, AARP’s Driver Safety Program will waive the normal course registration fee during the month of November. Here is a great opportunity reacquaint yourself with the rules of the road as we say “Thank You” for your service to our country.  


    Tune up your driving skills and update your knowledge of the rules of the road and learn defensive driving techniques. Upon completion of the course, you will qualify for an automobile insurance discount given by your insurance company.

    Poet Mary Makofske will read and discuss poems from her new book, winner of the Snyder Prize from Ashland Poetry Press (Ashland University).
    Mary Makofske's other books are The Disappearance of Gargoyles and Eating Nasturtiums, a winner of the Flume Press Chapbook Award. Her poems have appeared in Poetry, Mississippi Review, Poetry East, North American Review, Calyx, and other journals and in several anthologies. Individual poems have won the Robert Penn Warren Poetry Prize, the Lullwater Review Prize, the Iowa Woman Prize, and The Spoon River Poetry Review Prize. Before her retirement in 2006, she was an Assistant Professor of English at SUNY Orange.

    The Friends and Bookends bookshop at the Albert Wisner Public Library will be hosting a Holiday Book Sale on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 9-3PM. Choose from our collection of bestsellers, holiday books, children"s books, audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, library notecards and tote bags. Most books are $1 or less!

    The Friends and Bookends bookshop accepts donations of books, audiobooks, CD and DVDs in very good condition. Donations are limited to one small box or bag and we cannot accept magazines, textbooks, VHS tapes, reader"s digest books, or encyclopedias. Your donations of high quality used books help make the Friends and Bookends a great success.
