One of Sigmund Freud’s most-promising would-be leaders of the early 20th century psychoanalytic movement ended up in an American prison, his books confiscated and burned by government order. Thrown out of the Communist Party for being too psychoanalytic at the same time he was thrown out of the psychoanalytic organizations for being a Communist, Reich ended up having to flee Berlin and the rise of Nazism, only to end up facing trial in the state of Maine. Come learn about his controversial theories, and lasting contributions to the field of body psychotherapy, energy work and later New Age adaptations of it. His journey into delusion, heartbreak, and (perhaps) madness is a uniquely American one.

Presenter Jerry Sander is a licensed clinical social worker, adjunct instructor at NYU for the School of Social Work, couples therapist and certified Bioenergetics therapist. He’s been a Warwick resident for 34 years.
