Join us Sunday afternoon, July 27th, for a staged reading of “The Austens,” a new play by Sarah Rose Kearns.

In the spring of 1810, 34-year-old Jane Austen has given up writing and found peace in her quiet life with her mother, sister, and friend Martha Lloyd. But when her troubled and headstrong 17-year-old niece Anna arrives after breaking off an engagement, Jane’s creative spark is reignited. Anna’s passion and need for storytelling inspire Jane to return to her craft in this feminist coming-of-middle-age tale and tribute to the artist’s calling.

Playwright Sarah Rose Kearns, known for her 2021 off-Broadway adaptation of Persuasion, is a longtime Austen enthusiast and frequent speaker on adaptation. She is currently developing Manydown, another Austen-inspired work, for film.
