Albert Wisner Public Library

Library Mission Statement

The Albert Wisner Public Library is the community's favorite place to meet, to learn and to discover.  The Library daily connects people to each other and to the world.

  • Tutors are individuals who provide instruction to others either on a paid or volunteer basis. Tutors shall work with a maximum of two (2) students per tutor per session. The Library is not to be used as classroom or office space, but as a safe and quiet workspace for students to receive instruction to be successful.
  • Tutoring is not allowed in areas designated as Quiet Study Areas. The Children’s Room is reserved for use of children up to 5th grade and their caregivers. All other public space in the Library will be available for use by tutors on a first-come, first-served basis. Areas appropriate for group study and tutors may not be available if being used by others or needed for Library programs or activities. Reservations cannot be made for specific areas and there is no exclusive use of areas in the Library.
  • The Library meeting rooms are primarily for Library programs or community meetings by non-profit groups by reservation.  However, with the exception of the Wisner Room, the rooms are available for tutors or groups for studying if they are not reserved.  Library staff must be consulted to use these rooms, and they will determine if group study or tutor use is possible. These rooms cannot be reserved for group study or tutoring and may be available only if they are not being used.
  • Tutors and their students are required to follow the Library’s behavior policy. The Library reserves the right to ask tutoring or study groups that become too loud or disruptive to leave the Library.
  • Tutors and their students are required to follow the Library’s Internet Policy.
  • Eating is prohibited in the Library.  Drinking from closed or lidded containers is acceptable except at any Library computer workstation.  All trash and recycling must be properly disposed of, and all study areas must be clean after use.
  • Students must be under the tutor’s supervision at all times. It is the responsibility of tutors to establish communication with their students, and not to instruct the students or their parents to contact the Library regarding their work. The Library staff cannot take or deliver messages to students or their tutors.
  • It is preferred that the parent remain in the Library while the child is being tutored. The Library assumes no responsibility for children left unattended.
  • Library telephones are business phones for the use of the Library and should not be used by students or tutors.
  • Tutors working with students at the end of the day are asked to leave the library fifteen minutes before closing time.
  • Tutors and students must bring their own supplies, such as paper, pens, pencils, etc. Tutors may use Library materials (i.e. library books) in accordance with library policies.
  • Pursuant to the Library’s behavior policy, tutors may not solicit Library patrons in the Library.
