Step up your Spanish skills with our Beginner/Intermediate Spanish class! Designed for those who have some basic knowledge of Spanish, this course will help you build on your foundation, expanding your vocabulary, improving your grammar, and enhancing your conversational abilities. Instructor Luz Lopez will assess your skill level at the first class to make sure you are in the right class.

Step back in time for An Evening with Jack the Ripper as Shannon Fisher leads you through a chilling, interactive review of the latest theories and suspects surrounding history’s most notorious serial killer. Engage in thought-provoking discussions, explore evidence, and debate with fellow participants as you piece together the clues. The evening will conclude with a group vote, allowing you to weigh in on who you believe the true identity of Jack the Ripper might be. It’s an event you won’t want to miss, perfect for true crime enthusiasts and history buffs alike!

The Depolarizing Within workshop teaches participants to look at their own attitudes toward the political “other,” and to learn strategies for:  a)  engaging in politics without demonizing, and b) constructively intervening in conversations that stereotype or demonize the other side.

Goals:

● Become more aware of your own “inner polarizer”

● Learn how to criticize viewpoints without stereotyping, dismissing, ridiculing, and holding contempt for those who disagree with us

● Develop ways to speak up in polarizing conversations with peers about people on the other political side

What to Expect:

After an introductory discussion of polarization, participants will do a self-assessment exercise, learn to counteract their "inner polarizer," and practice communication skills to avoid polarizing conversations. This is a non-partisan program led by a representative of Braver Angels.  It is open to all who are interested in bridging the partisan divide.  Light refreshments will be served.

Ages 4-12

Come and meet new friends and join in on a game that is played all over the world.  Mahjong enthusiasts of all skill levels are invited to play every Tuesday from 10am to 1pm. The sessions are open-ended and participants can play as many or as few games as they wish.  Players with mahjong sets are encouraged to bring them, as the Library has only a limited number to loan. This program is free, ongoing and open to players from all communities.
