Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020) It would be an empty world without the blues. Based on August Wilson’s 1982 play, it stars Viola Davis, Chadwick Boseman (sadly his last film) and Glynn Turman. Inspired by the career of Ma Rainey, an influential blues singer and the title character, the film dramatizes a turbulent recording session in 1920’s Chicago. Rated R: 1 hour, 34minutes.
