People view classical music the same way they view kale - they know it's good for them, but still won't eat any. We know the wonderful word of classical music is out there, but are still searching for the recipe that will make it palatable. There is no better composer to bring new listeners to the magnificent world of symphonic music than George Gershwin.  He wrote funny and timeless show tunes such as “You say Ee-ther and I say Eye-ther,” but also the opera ``Porgy and Bess.”  He wrote adorable symphonic miniatures such as “Walking the Dog'' but also the iconic “Rhapsody in Blue”

Musician and educator, Ken Korn blends both live and recorded performances of Gershwin's fun and easy to digest music, but also introduces participants to his more substantial compositions as well.  Gershwin did not compose his show tunes to a lower standard than his symphonic music.  Come learn how the same level of sophistication and brilliance found in his ‘Concerto in F’ is also found in ‘Fidgety Feet.’  Likewise the wit and humor of his show tunes permeates his concert works as well.

Christine and Elliot Spero take you on a journey through Burt Bacharach’s greatest songs with some surprises.  Bacharach, considered one of the most important composers of 20th-century popular music, has composed hundreds of pop songs from the late 1950s through the 1980s, mostly in collaboration with lyricist Hal David.

A six-time Grammy Award winner and three-time Academy Award winner, Bacharach's songs have been recorded by more than 1,000 different artists.  He has written 73 US and 52 UK Top 40 hits. In 2015, Rolling Stone ranked Bacharach and David at number 32 for their list of the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. Take the journey back in time with us!

Christine Spero is no stranger to the stage. As a teen she recorded with Neil Sedaka and Don Kirschner at RCA Records. Her song "He Wasn't Always That Way" was the USA Songwriting Competition Jazz Category winner and "Caribbean Nights" was one of the finalists. The Christine Spero Group perform her original Nu-Jazz, Latin Fusion with 2 CD releases and a third, "Spero Plays Nyro" the music of Laura Nyro. Christine and multi instrumentalist, producer Elliot Spero have been recording and playing live shows with the group or as a duo for over 25 Years.

Due to the possibility of unsettled weather and high temps, Sunday's concert will be held indoors.

This Month's Read: THE DORITO EFFECT, by Mark Schatzker

“An argument proving that the key to reversing America’s health crisis lies in the overlooked link between nutrition and flavor.” Ever since the 1940’s, with the rise of industrialized food production, we have been gradually leeching the taste out of what we grow….Along with our efforts to maximize and standardize crops, we have created a flavor industry in an attempt to put back the tastes we have engineered out. In the process, “we have rewired our palates and our brains, and the results are making us sick and killing us.” This book tells “why we are in the midst of a new revolution that will allow us to eat healthier and live longer by enjoying flavor the way nature intended.”
