A panel of reenactors and tribal members will informally discuss the issues and challenges surrounding the presentation of Native Americans during reenactment of historical events. As the nation's 250th approaches and celebrations are planned, there is great need to include their role and struggles in our history, yet few of this ancestry choose to become reenactors. Those who do participate are overwhelmed with demand. Questions for discussion include: When someone not Native American steps in to fill the need, when is it honoring and being inclusive, and when it is "appropriation"?  What steps need to be taken to respect this heritage and make sure their contributions and struggles are not forgotten?  There are no simple answers. NOTE: This program will be a live group viewing of presenters on Zoom. Panelists include Martin Saniga, supervisor of Colonial Williamsburg's Native American Initiative;  Drew Shuptar-Rayvis, reenactor and Cultural Ambassador, Pocomoke Indian Nation; Elder Jonathan D. Yellowbear, a tribal elder, reenactor, and educator on Eastern Abenaki culture; and Lawrence Wood, Commander of Hathorn's Minutemen reenactment unit.

We exist in a moment of shifting male identity. The questioning of long-standing norms about male gender identity may leave some feeling as if their thoughts and feelings are not valid or worth sharing. Others may fear coming off as too dominating. Internalizing one’s thoughts and feelings, however, can be problematic. If these important issues pertain to your male identity, join Anthony Gonzalez, a mental health counseling intern and student at SUNY New Paltz, for weekly group discussions. With a mind toward creating healing dialogues, we will create a safe space in which to broach these subjects.
