The Power of the Dog (2021)   Jane Campion’s Western psychological drama based on Thomas Savage's 1967 novel stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee.  Charismatic rancher Phil Burbank inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother brings home a new wife and her son, Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love.  The critically acclaimed, but intense,  film covers themes such as love, grief, resentment, jealousy, social awkwardness, masculinity and closeted sexuality. The New Zealand born director, Campion would picked up an Oscar for Best Director (the third woman in Academy history).  Rated R:  2 hours, 6 minutes.

Come and meet new friends and join in on a game that is played all over the world. Mah jongg enthusiasts of all skill levels are invited to play every Tuesday from 10am to 1pm. The sessions are open ended and participants can play as many or as few games as they want. Players with mah jongg sets are encouraged to bring them as the library has a limited number to loan. This program is free, ongoing and open to players from all communities.

The Writer's Group meets every Wednesday, from 2 to 4pm in the Board Room. Bring in 6 copies of up to four pages, typed and double spaced, to be critiqued by fellow writers in a friendly, constructive manner. All forms of prose acceptable; no poetry please! This is a non-instructional program for adults; new members always welcome!

Local historian Sue Gardner will present some of the local folkways and tales contained in Eliza Benedict Hornby's "Under Old Rooftrees". The book was published in 1908 after a lifetime of collecting stories of her family and neighbors, reaching back in time to colonial days.  What were the seasonal gatherings?  What was life like?  What astonishing phenomena and events did they witness?  Can we find sources that help us know if the richly embroidered stories are at their core true?
