Seamstress Cindy Hopper of Sewcology will teach basic hand sewing stitches for clothing construction and repair (not embroidery), and help you work on the project of your choice.  Historical materials such as linen thread, linen, cotton and wool will also be covered.  Participants will provide their own needles, thread, scissors, and pre-cut material (following your chosen pattern/project).  The first two sessions will be working up a "sampler piece" of basic stitches.  For this, you will need a solid color light weight material of your choice approx. 30" square.

NOTE: Please check with us prior to the program for current COVID protocols. As of August 23, masks are required for all  persons for library visits and programs per CDC guidelines.  If the library in consultation with health authorities requires, the program may shift to remote and be given on Zoom.

Historical Horror Artist Steve Gale presents the European sites and historical characters that inspired Gothic chillers. "Strange Tales in Stone" is a body of artwork and presentation connecting supernatural characters with the historical figures and ancient stone sites that inspired the golden age of Universal Horror. This presentation is family-friendly.

Steve Gale has been drawing since his Mom took a polaroid of him scribbling his first work at 9 months old.  years later he graduated from the Paier College of Art in Hamden CT with a diploma in Graphic Design. A Dracula tour in 2008 opened Steve eyes to the allure of castle ruins. Spending the next several years researching and locating specimens of crumbling citadels, Steve began to produce graphite pencil renderings from photographs collected during his travels.  Ultimately a connection was made between Universal’s classic horror characters and the ruinous stony sites scattered throughout Europe that inspired their spooky tales.
