Shostakovich, one of the great 20th Century composers known for his massive symphonic works, was referred to as the "Beethoven of our time" by his peers. He used folk tunes as the foundation for his sixth quartet, presenting them within Beethoven's familiar classical structures. Though more than 150 years and a continent apart, both composers used the intimate language of the String Quartet to plumb the depths of the soul. The Hudson Valley String Quartet was formed in Warwick, NY, in 2012 with the objective of sharing their love of music and string literature ... "bringing it to the people," as it were. As an ensemble, the Hudson Valley String Quartet enthusiastically performs at public and private events, fundraisers, and outreach concerts in support of their community. An extension of their passion for music is teaching and preparing young musicians to perform, an important part of each member's commitment to the future of music.
This program is made possible by a generous gift to the Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation by Glenn P. and Susan D. Dickes.Location:AWPL Community RoomAge Group:Adult
