Location: Fountain Square (Main St. at Colonial Ave.) / Local tradition tells us that King's Highway (Colonial Ave. in the Village) and Rt. 94 were both indian trails. At their intersection, arriving guests were welcomed and farewells were offered, and it was from the Wawayanda Hotel here that the Warwick lads set off in 1862 to join the Union army. In 1902 the heirs of George W. Sanford. erected a fountain in his memory here. During WWII the home guard marched and drilled here, and the Armistice Day parade started here as well. Currently the "square" consists of a small traffic island containing the (now dry) fountain and the Frank Forester monument. Source: Article in "Warwick Roots". Image source: Internet auction.
